The Media Myth of Great Vintages.
If you listen to the wine industry media, vintages are rated and that's that. The reality that each region or appelation has numerous microclimates is ignored. And consequently, each time the media announces a less than stellar year, wine values drop and consumers ignore very fine wines at reasonable prices.
It's true that each year vintners must work with whatever grapes the season produces. And while some years are simply not as good as others, the best vintners know how to carefully select only the grapes that meet their quality standards.
At Anderson's Conn Valley Winery, we've made some remarkably fine wines even in years that the media has declared poor vintage years. A feat we attribute both to our special microclimate in Conn Valley, which is unique to Napa Valley, but also to our selectivity in what grapes are crushed in any given year.
